Both are double din, but my MY01 only had a CD player, no tape (so the wife says, but it was 6 months ago we changed it)..

will an MY03 standard tape/cd/tuner unit fit the hole? Isn't the interior the same?

The MY01 ( bugeye ) had a tape and a CD

I have a MY03 STi now and the unit is almost identical to the one ine my MY01 car , the only differences are cosmetic and it will almost certainly fit

Yes.

The wiring is the same, the size is the same.

Quite why you'd want to do this is beyond me, as the 03 stereo is still a useless maker of noise...
