I've just changed my standard double din head unit in my MY03 STI for a Sony CDXM670 and the radio reception is now CRAP.....
With the standard stereo, all of my local stations were good strong signals and the RDS easily tuned to them, but with the Sony fitted, it just searches straight past them, and even if I tune to them manually, the reception is terrible and the RDS doesn't recognise the station due to the poor signal...
Any ideas????

Big Red is correct. There is a aerial amplifier for the rear screen aerial which needs power. On Pioneer units there is a blue wire with spade connectors that comes unplugged as standard. This just needs connecting. I would assume yours has something similar.
Most headunit instructions refer to it as the electric aerial switch on feed....
I took somepics a while ago and posted them on here for someone who had exactly that problem.

There is a Clarion branded amp under the rear shelf.....
Am I right in saying that this requires an additional power feed?
Why does it work without power with the factory head unit?
Jocky, you said
Can you give me the exact location of this please?

Just did as you advise Jocky and it works spot on mate!
Pity the manufacturers don't tell you this in the first place.
I had my car booked in to be looked at as well!
They'd probably have done exactly the same and billed me for loads! lol

Yeah - too me a while to figure it out too, mainly cos I thought that when the instructions referred to the 'electric arial' it meant one of those that go up and down automatically...
The standard headunit has this power feed already connected in it's loom, but you probably guessed that now you've sorted it.
So at least we know now the solution for Pioneer AND Sony units. Wonder if there are others with the same problem...?

Yeah its already there for the factory head unit.
In my Sony harness the aerial remote wire was snipped with no bullet connectors etc as it had been previously in use on my last Scoob for the electric aerial so was just hanging with nothing to connect to.
I identified which wire controlled the electric aerial in the ISO loom and simply soldered the sony blue wire into the ISO loom.
Works perfectly, but I'll bullet it at some point for quick release purposes.
