Hello!

Need some advice about sound deadening my Impreza 99 (UK). I'm fed up of all the rattling from the tinny metals and bad plastics so this Saturday the whole interior is coming out to be sorted. Has anyone got any tips on the best places to deaden, materials to use (dynamat??) and getting awkward trim out? I'd be very greatful and I thought some of you ICE maniacs will have done this.

Cheers,

Pete

I'm sure dynamat would disagree quite strongly with that statement

I've used dynamat, flashing tape, scosche accumat, dynamat super, dynamat extreme and barrier mat from steve the sound man (see the shop).

Dynamat extreme and barrier mat are my favourites, and flashing tape works too...

I think it'll be Dynamat Extreme for the doors and floors and wheel arches, and flashing tape for behind panels etc. I'll Dynamat the boot too and the top of the parcel shelf, under the trim.

Chiark, how much quieter is your car after that little lot? I hope I can still hear my decat!!!!

How much weight do you want to be added?

It'll always be a compromise between weight and performance. IMHO the best compromise is using around a roll per door so you'll get nearly a fully dampened skin. More will give some benefit, but you're into diminishing returns especially against weight.

Cheers,
Nick.

A roll about 60sq ft would weigh in @ about 28lbs
