Which Speakers- Budget £100-£200
Hi,
Having sorted a headunit out (went for the Alpine 9813 – thanks everyone for your advice) I’m looking for some decent speakers up front for my MY98.
My music tastes are fairly varied but I tend to listen to dance music a lot of the time (please don’t all pelt me with stones at once!)
I have a budget of £100-£150 ideally but I could maybe stretch to £200 if it’ll get me something significantly better.
Also what is the quality of the standard fit speaker cable like? Do many people replace it with thicker aftermarket stuff?
On the size front, I assume any 165mm/ 6.5” speaker will fit in with the MDF adaptors.
The speakers I’ve been looking at so far are:
Alpine SPR-176A (£110 from lets buy car audio)
Infinity 65.5CS (£150 from in car express)
Or if you think the extra money is worth it:
Infinity perfect 6.1 (£200 from lets buy car audio)
Can anyone suggest any better for the money? (or anywhere that can beat the prices above) I've heard focal being mentioned but I know nothing about them.
Thanks in advance!
Chris

definately the focals mate as in my thread earlier. we had a wee bit of trouble fitting them in the front. they work with the normal spacers found on the car btu press up against the door card. you may even have to space them out as i did when i got other ones fitted. just so long as you've got an amp to power at least two of them, you don't even need a sub!

I assume that the component focals are worth the extra over the coaxials?
Just how much of a pain am I letting myself in for trying to install focal PolyGlass speakers into the front of a 98 classic??
I've got a magnat 4x130 + 1x260 amp that I can put in if I need to, but I was hoping that the 60w internal amp in the alpine 9813 would do... what do you think?
Cheers again for your advice guys, it is much appreciated!

the co-axials and compoents may have a differnce of a tenner in the prices.....
u will need a spacer for the polglass speakers, Corsa ones were used in mine and went in - not easily but not that difficult. just some little persuation i think... I didnt actually put them in - I had the ICE shop who did my boot do them at the same time as the boot was being kitted out.
This is all in a Classic aswell

having owned a cheapo alpine in the pas i'm fairly certain that the CDA9813R will be good...i remember listening to Korn 'life is peachy' cd using the old alpine with nothing but alpine 6 x 9's on the parcel shelf. UNBELIEVEABLE bass end!...& u can't get much more thunderous that korn!
ideally i'd love to stick some 6x9s in the parcel shelf but i'm afraid i'll wreck my lovely new scoob.

Check they'll fit. The access range is very tight, the polyglass will probably be too deep IMHO without needing special attention.
Also, do audition the speakers if you're spending this much money. Focals are still on tbe "bright" side of the range IMHO. I like them, but they're not the be-all and end-all.
Cheers,
Nick.

thanks for the advice.
It's so difficult to choose/audition...then fit them!
In my old golf vr6 there were loads of direct replacement spkrs.
So what would you personally recommend to go with my alpine head?
I only want to change the front and rears spkrs.

A Vauxhall Corsa Speaker Spacer was used that was drilled onto bodywork using existing holes that could be used and an extra hole where needed and then the speaker onto this..
