Am I alone in thinking that radio reception from the HRW antenna is particularly poor on these cars. The A-pillar antenna from my previous MY97 picked up far more stations more clearly than the STi8 one does. Typically only about 3 commercial stations can be received, and not very well.

Has anyone changed to one of the small whip types which seem more common on European cars and work fairly well.

I was thinking of going the DAB route which would require a separate antenna anyway, but there has been so much critisism of its poor quality and limited number of transmitters that I have real doubts.

In my bug eye I have no problems. In fact it's quite good. Have you changed the headunit at all?

As above, have u changed the head unit? You need to ensure that the remote turn-on wire is connected in the ISO loom.

Also, I've added an amp and eq to my system, and this is putting out interference which knocks the radio reception for 6

Ah.

Change the head unit. As you observe, it's none too special.

So am I right in saying people have changed the head unit, kept the standard HRW antenna, and achieved improved radio reception?

Correct. That is exactly what I have done. As Chiark says, any lead from the headunit marked 'remote aerial' or similar needs to be connected as the aerial needs power to function. Pioneer headunits come with this lead unplugged as standard. I found out the hard way.

The standard headunits are terrible in every way, but you don't realise how much so until you replace it and the standard speakers..

The Kenwood box is £350. Just be very sure you think its worthwhile splashing out. Make certain you can receive what you want in your area (info on the web). There is a growing groundswell of complaints about what appears to be an oversold technology badly implimented in some cases.
