I know that this has probably been answered loads of time but i'm a bit lazy!

What are the standard speaker sizes (front and rear)in a MY93 WRX. I can not be bother to take the car apart to look.

I think i recall 5 1/4" front and rear going in easily. From a previous car i have some 6 1/2" speakers (components and coaxial), will these fit?

Any suggestions?

Hey, I was only kidding,

this is supposed to be a light hearted forum, and always has been.

You can do a search if you want and find all the info you need but if you are gonna be touchy I'll help you out.

Sixes will go in but require some work, Main problem is clearance. Remove plastic bracket supporting old speaker and cut metal from door skin to accept larger magnet. This is easy as the metal is thin. You can use a nibbler (carefully) or some strong metal sutting shears, make sure you smmooth any sharp edges as wires may snag.

You will need to build a spacer, preferably from 3/4 inch mdf, which should be enough.
Try to cut the outside diameter to exactly that of the speaker as space is tight.

After this you will find that panel will not fit on top of this arrangement, therefore some modification is needed.

In my case, I cut away some of the speaker grill panel built into the door.


The next bit is difficult to describe so I will do my best. The speaker grill has a face that the speaker sits behind. Because the larger speaker is now behind it the door panel will not clear the speaker all the way round so cannot fit flush to the doorso the poppers will not click and lock the panel in place. If you cut a rectangular hole in the door panel in the horizontal section that comes out from the door panel to meet the speaker grille then the panel can be secured to the door with the speacer and speaker just poking out the bottom of the grille.

This sounds untidy but is invisible as the hole that the spacer and speaker protrude through is actually underneath and cannot be seen from any point within the car. The only way this would ever be visible is if you lie down on the floor and look up at the door panel.

Although not vital, you could even paint the mdf spacer black, incase there is a a funny angle from which it is still on show.

There may be other ways of doing this but in the case of my speakers having enormous magnets this was the only invisible way of gettinga 6.5 inch speaker in the door.

A major contributing factor to the caring, sharing community we have here is the ability to communicate without the need to resort to the lowest level of vocabulary.
