Question

Hi All,

I'm in need of some new intercoonects for head unit to amp. I need three (front, rear and sub) about 3m long each.

Can anyone recommend a make/model they have experience of for not stupid money. Budget for cables is about 100 pounds but that includes speaker cables but not power (already done).

Cheers

Ian

Cool

You can build yourself high quality RCA leads with cable and plugs purchased at Maplins/RS and some patience. Worth considering is you have A) the time and B)reasonable ability with a soldering iron.

Maplin "Shark cable" works extremely well, even over one low signal level ~12 metre run I have.

Talking

I spent an instructive hour a year ago with a phoenix gold "Trans Balanced" cable (the cheapest of their offering), an Alpine job and a Scosche custom made. I got the wife to swap the cables over at the amp end, in no particular pattern. Yes, she thought I was a sad t055er.

The difference, despite all being 5 metre runs, was very small. After a while, I could tell the difference and preferred one.

It was the Phoenix gold one. I think it was about 30 quid for a 5 metre one. I bought another (higher quality) RCA in the states for $45...

Why not contact Mike Tuckwood at Scoobymania (mailto:mike@scoobymania.co.uk) as his post mentioned that he'd got some RCAs for sale?

Nick.

Question

Yep.
I have 6 x Phoenix Gold 2M, RCA cables, and 1 x 5M cable for sale.

The only reason I didn't reply ws cos you originally suggested 3M cables.

Don't know if that is any help or not. Also got connector blocks Etc. All Phoenix Gold stuff.

Nick,
Thanks for the review. Following your post and from Mr. Tuckshop , the Gold's seem the ones to go for.

Mike,
Cheers but I defo need three metre runs, 2m won't quite make it to the amp. Cheers anyway.

Moray,
Thanks, I'll look into this as there is a Maplins in Cheltenham. Soldering iron ? Is that a big thing that runs on propane with a big flame out of the front ?

Thanks all.

Cheers

Ian
