I want to improve the crappy sound of the basic install on my MY03 STI.

My preference is to keep the standard head unit (doesn't really look nickable) and spend the money on front speakers (and back?)

Is the head unit so crap that new speakers won't make that much difference (garbage in, garbage out) ?

If the consensus is replace the head unit, i'd prefer to stick to 2DIN - what's the recommendation and is there a CD/MD unit available ?

Any advice would be very helpful

 

IMHO, change the head unit, then the speakers. Adding more transparent speakers will just show you how bad the standard fit really is
