I'm looking for a reasonable head unit to replace a Sony unit that is driving me up the wall and the Alpine CDA-7893R seems to fit the bill. The main thing is it plays MP3's, but also has a few other nice features.

Has anyone tried this unit and how did you rate it? I'm also trying to find out how good the MP3 navigation is on it. I'd like to be able to browse directories by name if possible.

Finally, does anyone know where I can get the best deal? Best I've found so far is £240.

Cheers,

Dave

Thumbs up

Dave - I've had mine for around 8 months now. Find it easy to use and the ability to play MP3s comes in handy as well. I normally just bung them all onto a disk without folders so can't help you on the folder navigation part, but it certainly finds the tracks quick enough. Lots of features and tons of fiddling with the EQ settings, time delays etc are all available if that floats your boat

Display is nice and clear, sounds ace and the tuner is pretty sensitive and holds onto the stations well. Overall it compares favourably with my previous head units which were mainly high end Kenwood stuff

I've got one with a 6 disc changer I'm going to sell, you can have it for, say £220 with the changer and AI net lead? Bought it last September, so still got the orginal box, manuals, bags..

No use whatsoever, but the Kenwood KDC-PSW9524 lets you select folders. I think most should, but really try before you buy as it's a pain not being able to do this!
