Anyone wanting to convert a double to single DIN thingy has a few options... How about this?

Subaru pocket, part number 66127SA000, cost a princely tenner plus VAT from your local subaru dealer.

Very neat, matches the dash better than the poor flash photo below suggests. The flap on it is "damped" and latched. Space inside for 3 CDs in jewel cases.

Should mention that you will need to drill a couple of holes in the mounting brackets to make this fit. That's the work of ten minutes even for the ham fisted like me . Also, the mounting brackets are not on show, so you can't go wrong

With the KDC-PSW9524 fitted...

Also, you need an Autoleads converter. Part number PC2-44-4, cost is 9.95 from most places.

Cheers,
Nick.

*PAH* I've gone and fit a SECS unit and a JVC Chaemleon head unit. Will hopefully get picces up this weekend..but I'm worse with 'pooters than I am with ICE
I give the CD cases to the wife to hold..more expensive than an autochanger in the long run maybe, but has some fringe benefits.

yeah, with her hands full, she can't belt you one?

The SECS unit does tempt me, but I think I'll fit my secs-type thingy in a pod on top of the dash. Need to write the software first tho

Can do boost out of the ECU, and coolant temp. Oil temp / pressure requires a sender unit. Know anything about data acquisition on PCs?

I read something somewhere back in the mists of time about a plug that just went into the ecu socket under the steering wheel, had rs232 connection, null modem or whatever cable to the pc. Might have to do some searching Unless there is an easier way David?

Simon (psi3) mentioned that there is an rs232 header, on the back of the SECS mobo - will have to pester him about it

Cheers,

Richie.

Question

Chiark, just to go back to the top pic - how would the pocket look in a 01/02 with the lighter aluminium/plastic trim? Would it look out of place?

Thanks.
Richard.

Errrm, I'll try to have a look at an 01/02 to find out. To be honest, I didn't know that the dash had changed!

Cool

I've not compared the two but I thought the metal-look insert panel was supposed to be a little darker on the 03 to give a more quality look (probably to match the darker alloy's as well?)

Must admit it didn't seem much different when I saw the 03 at the NEC.

Is the front of the pocket lighter then the surround or the same colour (it looks lighter in the pic but suspect thats a flash thing rather than anything else).

Cheers

It matches pretty well - to be honest, it probably matches the 02 just as well too... I *think* it's originally from a Forester?

Thumbs up

Thanks, looks like the solution I've been waiting for - for a tenner or so I can't go wrong. Now for the hard part, single din head unit selection.....

Hehe - just fitted exactly the same thing!

The 03 Dash is actually quite a bit darker than the 01/02 which are much more 'silver'.

You are correct in that the hinged flap pocket is out of a new 03 Forester. (which also has the darker trim finish)

IMHO the flap would prolly look out of place on a 02, but depends how fussy you are. I personally can't stand the black plastic pockets which are fitted, as these warp and look shat. So anything is going to look better

I really want that forester pocket, but every dealer i speak to has not heard of the code you gave. the other code is for the open pocket which does not look as nice. Any ideas?

Yes, and that is the correct part number for the OPEN Impreza pocket not for the silver faced one from a forester that is showen in the picture.

Fair enough - I can only tell you what it says on my invoice, and what it says on the box that the thing came in then...

KT Greens were the supplying dealer - try them? 0113 284 3535.

Update us when you know!

Chiark,
What head unit is that in your picture?

I was thinking of a Sony Active Black Panel, Do you know is this will fit (ie. removable trim).

Any help would be appreciated as local ICE shops don't seem to know.

Thanks for your help, apparently they have 2 parts listed under the same part number at 2 diffrent prices. The impreza pocket is more than the flap but the chap said that the dash is not an exact colour match and my eyes are very sensitive to things like that. So i just plumped for the standard pocket. Once again thatks for the help. I used your instructions to install my Pio 8400 and it went in like a treat.

I paid a visit to my local dealer and quoted the 66127 number - they came up with a blank.

I mentioned that it came out of a Forester and I took the parts man to an 03 Forester they were PDIing and showed him the actual bit of kit.

I went to pick it up today and he tried to fob me off with a poxy piece of black plastic in the shape of a single DIN blanking plate!!! I pointed out that this in no way resembled what he and I had seen in the Forester and all I got was a blank look!! Useless blanker!!

I'll try another localish dealer to see if the 66128 number is any good. Don't you just hate people that haven't got a clue what they are selling!!!
