Whilst the standard speakers arent bad Im looking to get some better sounding and louder ones. I know f'ck all about ICE. I wont be running anything fancy like amps etc. Just want to know what would be the best to spend my money on (£125ish before fitting etc). Would I be better off upgrading rear or fronts? Had Infinity speakers in my last car and liked them a lot.

Running a Kenwood MP3 headunint (6090R I think 47x4) if that makes any difference. Instict tells me rears would be better as Im after a bit more volume.

I'm not an ICE expert, but I've been trawling the threads on here and the ICE FAQ recently, and the consensus seems to be to upgrade the front speakers. Apparently, many people either don't upgrade the rear speakers or just disconnect them. At the price point you're talking about, people seem to be raving about the Focal speakers. Have a look at similar threads from the last couple of weeks for more info.

 

Fronts would be best to upgrade first, then do the rears. If it's volume that you're after then in some ways doing the rears will give you what you want at the expense of a stereo image.

What's your budget?

Thanks for the replies. The Focals look to be in my price range (at £129 for the 165A Components). Not being an ICE boff I know that components have a seperate tweeter - will this model fit straight into the standard front speaker spots in my scoob (MY00 Turbo) and the tweeter holes next to the door handles i.e. is it a straight swap.

Also would I benefit from getting better grade speaker cable from my Kenwood Headunit.

I may get an Amp later on - will these speakers be sufficient for use with a decent amp (nothing massive just something to boost the volume and crispen up the signal)??

I have the Focal Access 165A's in the front doors of my scoob.I have a slightly older car MY95 Wagon and had them fitted by a dealer as they do not have any separate tweeter housings but your car may have the housings and the tweeters will fit straight in.I can't recommend the focals highly enough.
I am running them with the standard rears and a Blaupunkt Velocity VR504 amp and JL audio 10'' sub.The sound is of devastating quality for not a massive amount of money.
Your head unit is great for adjusting the sound for your own individual taste.

I had focals fitted all round about 6 weeks well chuffed i had the 165v component set fitted in the front and the 165ca in the rear. The dealer fitted them for me and sound deadened the doors, he said he had to manufacture something for the speakers what! i'm not sure. It only took a couple of hrs so can't be to hard.

I am well happy with the result to match my alpine head unit and changer.

What sort of price did u guys pay and where from? Cant find many dealers on the web. Found the 165-A's for £129 inc vat and free delivery at:

Leaves me a few quid for installation and some dynamat soundproofing in the front doors.

i'm in a similar position with my MY00, standard front speakers and all...

I posted a similar thread a couple of months back and the general opinion was fitting of the Infinity 605cs or something? Apparently they are well easy for a complete novice (me) as they will fit straight in.

It was a couple of months back though, so I may be talking complete pants.

I paid £300 fitted for my speakers all round from a dealer in North Wales, also my front components were the next ones up from 165A they were 165V which are around £200 if you can't get any, e-mail me and i will give you his details if you like i,m not sure if he does mail order but worth a go if you can fit them yourself.

Yeah the 165A's are £129 delivered and the 165V's are £160 delivered. I may well pay the extra 30 quid.
