I looked through my Impreza booklet but couldn't find this information anywhere...
Were the standard speakers 4*35W or 4*45W?
My new head units spec is 4*45 and in case the standard speakers are 4*35 will it be ok or do I have to upgrade the speakers before fitting the new ICE?

they're usually 35 watts and no u don't have to upgrade the speakers it only means you can blast them louder

Oh, you mean I can turn them up louder? I thought that the higher output of the ICE would destroy the speakers when they are lower.....?

I wouldn't want to put much more than 5W through them. They won't handle it.

Keep the volume fairly low, and they'll stay together fine. Once you hear the bass beginning to distort, then you're driving them too hard, so turn it down; as long as you're sensible, you won't blow them up.

However, not only will you get more power handling, but a lot better sound if you upgrade them. Standard speakers will do as a temporary measure, but change them and you won't regret it. All IMHO, of course.

i had 4 x 50W headunit running through the standard speakers.

Turn it up over half way and it all went wrong. I bought new speakers.
