Question

Hi,

What amps actually fit under the front seats (currently have my CD cahnger under one of them). Im struggling to get actual dimensions from various manufacturers. A 4 channel would be nice, but if not a 2 channel that could be used in 'tri-mode' to drive the fronts and a sub.

Not really bothered about manufacturer but not too expensive. I've been looking at Kenwood 729/749, the old faithful Philips DAP6040, some Rockford, PG, Alpine etc. The front speakers are Infinity 605cs and the sub Infinity 1020 fyi.

So who's used what then??

Tony.

Is it totally impossible to mount anywhere else? The only reason I ask is cos it seems like a bit of a compromise. Also, would you really get enough power out of a moderately priced 2ch amp to run a Sub as well as the fronts?

Interested in what someone who knows about this sort of thing has to say on this.

It's not impossible to mount else where but it's easiest to do it there (plus i don't want the **** of the car on the ground 'cos it's laiden with amps and subs.

I want to keep the weight to a minimum and as such don't want to go overboard. As to can a two channel amp power a sub in the £150 to £200 bracket, yes it can. Pretty much all the manufacturers give you wiring diagrams on how to (Kenwood, JBL, Infinity, Rockford etc) so i don't see that as a problem. Remebering i don't want to make my ears bleed .

At the moment i'm looking at the JBL 4000 (4 channel amp) just got the measurements so im gonna see if it will fit tonight.

Cheers,

Tony.

this is what i bought off gregh and he had it under his passenger seat.

Philips AMP DAP 6040
4 channel AMP, flat enough to be mounted under the passenger seat. 4 x 110w or 2 x 220w. Frequency response 5Hz - 100kHz
Electronic low and high-pass filters 60/80/100/120Hz

Not fitted it in mine yet though!

The philips has been around for years and years but i've always thought it was a great amp for the price, hard to get hold of now tho . I don't suppose you'd measure the saize of the amp would you..... being very cheeky .

Thats a jolly good question

Could maybe tie it in with the fitting of the new turbo if you get my jist LOL

The only thing i know how to do is take the old one out. There is too many cables in the box for my liking Scares me just looking at them.

Lots of wires, but I reckon you could install the amp, HU and changer in 3-4 hours taking it steady. Maybe less if chiark and Dave chip in!

let me know when it's being done and I may bob round in the Westie if it sunny!

At the mo i dont know wether i am coming or going. What with the house, work and the scoob i have not got a clue. Waiting for turbo to arrive and would probably have a go on the same day. Depends on how we get on fitting it. Until turbo arrives i dont know.

David asked me the other day how my wife, Emma, took to the recent expenses. Not bad considering i divided everything by 2

Dare not tell her about this, cause belive you me if you saw my house you would not live in it, its that run down

Will let you know. Suppose it depends on David really. Looks i will be taking days of work again.
