Just been having a look at the Infinity website. In their fitting guide for a 2001 WRX, the recommended speaker is the 505Cs - 5 1/4 inch, 2 5/8 inch depth (mounting depth 2 1/4"). Fine as far as it goes. Now the more popular speaker over here is the 605CS - better spec, bigger cone etc etc. On their website, the mounting depth is quoted as 2 1/16 inch - which is less than the 505 (if my imperial conversion is correct ) - There is no mention of needing a mounting bracket or spacer (other than what is supplied with the speakers).

Question is: Is there are difference with the stereo fiited to US cars and why would you then need to fit an MDF spacer when using the 605s?

Not sure about US vehicles, but you need a 12mm MDF spacer for the 605s to stop the windows hitting them when you wind them down. I wonder if the US site tested the depth with the windows up.....

Question

That's what I thought. Strange that this should be the recommended speaker for the US car.
