OK I know this has been discussed before and the consensus it that the grommet where the aircon pipes go through is the best place to route the cable. Had a look, found the said grommet and removed it to see whether there's enough room to get the cable through.
At first there looked to be loads of room since it was filled with some fabric like stuff (prolly sound deadening) but when I put my finger in to check it seems there's mostly metal in there with only a few small holes for the pipes. Is it possible to get 4-gauge through this hole and if so exactly where in relation to the existing piping? Also where does it come out at the other side, will I need to remove the glovebox?
BTW the car is a 1996 UK turbo.

My MY98 has large grommet, equally large hole in the metal, loads of room to fit multiple power cables through, comes out at the top of the passenger footwell, just below the glovebox as I recall (although I may have already removed that, thinking about it).

@ ozzy: Mine already has aircon aswell, that's what I mean by the existing pipes. I'd imagine the grommet is just blanked off for non-aircon models?
Ratman I'll have another look at it, I doubt they changed the bulkhead much from MY96 to MY98 so I must be missing something!

Success! You're right there is loads of room in there, just need to stick your finger in and poke around for the right bit (sound familiar ).
Now got my 4-gauge run to the boot ready for the amp going in (RCAs already in place).
Thanks for the help.
