I'm in the midst of a major stereo upggrade.
I'm swapping my Alpine cassette head unit (3RCA's) and autochanger, for a Kenwood MD head unit (Mask/4V outs/3 RCA's) and a Keendwwood autochanger.
Amp wise I currently have 2 Alpine F405's (4-channel amps, 1 for front & rear, and 1 for 2 subs) I'm looking at a Genesis 5 channel amp for the P1, but I'm not sure what speakers or subs.
I thought about keeping my Alpine subs, as I could run these in parallel on the 1ohm capable Genesis, but I like the look and sound of the Alpine DD Sub!
So Lee/Adam any bright ideas on the speaker front, subs or even the amp??
All ideas welcome!!
Cheers
Andy

Hi Andy,
good to hear from you.
I think we'd be better off toemail off line but if you wnat a quick answer.
Apparently DDDrive subs are very good but I have always been against buying speakers from a company that dont specialise in speakers.
Amp wise dont buy genesis. thats all I can say. I believe they are built locally to me and have heard very few great reports, some good reports and lots of bad reports.
Also, I have a special ability of being able to get phoenix gold and soundstream very cheap (my favourite makes).
I can make some suggestions front speakerwise, but it depends on how much you want to spend, what music typeand how willing you are to cut your lovely new car.
Subs. I have specially imported subs. I spent ages trying different makes with different enclosures looking for the right sound and didnt find it. I always wanted tight hard bass tat you can feel in your lungs and also feels as though you are being punched in the back. Used to have it coutesy of four JBL eights in one sealed but quite small enclosure.
Couldnt recreate the sound at all until an old boy explained that the sound was unique to a paper coned sub. Try buying a paper cone sub, with decent efficiency, high power handling and high excursion and you wont. Because hardly anyone makes them.
I found one make which I approve of. Cheaper than Alpine and JLs best offerings, works in a tiny box and hits incredibly hard.
If you can handle buying a name that few have heard of then let me know, Ill bore you with details by email.
Come and listen to my car if you want proof.
good luck.
