Pioneer 8400 and poor reception
After a big debate about what to get and some good advice from one of the other threads I finally got and installed my DEH8400 - excellent notes from Audio G Man !!!
IMHO a top bit of kit and plays WMA and MP3 CD's very well. Excellent bit of kit, however the sound setup has that many options its going to take a while to set-up.
One problem outstanding is the Tuner reception is very poor. You can get Radio 1 (well if you wanted too
) ish but fails to pick anything up via a scan/seek. I have an STi Type UK which has the aerial in the rear screen.... is there a pre-amp that needs power or something ?
TIA

I fell into the same trap with my 8400. The reason you are getting naff reception is because you are not providing power to the internal electric aerial.
Basically there is a blue wire on the pioneer wiring which you need to connect up (it's disconnected by default). I haven't got the manual in front of me, but I think it has a remote control label attached to the wire. Once you connect the two halves of this wire together, everything should work fine.
Iain.

I don't know for sure but the screen aerial is probably powered (they normaly are) and it sounds like to me like the wire is not connected to the Pioneers electric aerial/remote output.
Check the blue/white wire (I think it's blue/white) in the Pioneers wiring loom, there is a plug halfway along it between the plug that goes into the unit and the ISO plug. When brand new the 2 plugs are not plugged together, they need to be.
Follow that wire from the head unit through the PC2-44-4 and into the cars wiring loom. Is there a break anywhere? Does it go to a wire in the cars loom?
