Question

Hello,

I'm looking into replacing the Double din unit which stereo would be a good replacement?

I'm ideally looking for either a CD or MD, but believe you can now get MP3 CD players???

Replace with a single DIN unit, suggest alpine CD/tuner, and install a storage pocket below (use subaru item from GX model -costs around £12). Alpine Head unit sounds decent and fits very neatly behind the MY01 centre console trim. I use Alpine 7871Rm Head unit. If you want significant upgrade in sound quality you will need to replace standard rubbish speakers.

Question

Yes you can.
Not sure why you'd want to spend valuable pennies on EQ ahead of new speakers, amp, sub, decent wiring, particularly speakers. Besides, single DIN space will restrict your options. You can buy single DIN Eq though, from the likes of Alpine, Kenwood et al. Have you thought about how attractive the kit becomes to unwanted eyes, unless you go for removable facia (something else to carry about)

Try this thread for full description of how to install speakers. I use Infinity 605cs btw - sound decent for £76 for fronts (rears are faded out). Its not going to be easy to find straight drop in speakers for front doors of MY01, you need to perform some minor mods. I got audio g man to install mine - fine piece of work.
