Two Questions (Satnav / iPhone Connection)
Hi guys,
Two questions, possibly unrelated, possibly not.
Question 1
What is the most economical way of having a decent satnav setup in a 2006 Hawk STI outside of using a portable Satnav? The double din headunits with satnav appear to be ~£1000!
Question 2
Is there an easy way of having an iPod/iPhone connector coming from the rear of the standard headunit? Mainly to charge my phone while driving, so I could use satnav app without draining battery. Playing music from it would be good too.

Answer to question 2 in part you probably won't be able to run music and sat nav from your phone at the same time! Without having a sat nav head unit, I have a pioneer sat unit and with the I phone lead in the back of the system I can charge the phone and play music make hands free calls etc

Does your head unit have bluetooth? If the answer is yes you can run nav software (I bought the TomTom western europe app) on your phone and listen to music at the same time. If you don't have bluetooth you should have an aux connector so you could get a one of these which will do the job.

As for charging, most modern head units have a USB connection which should charge your phone.
If you have an iPhone 4 or iPod touch I have something for sale that might interest you.

I have a cheap double din stereo with a front USB. I would have preferred a rear one but hay ho.

I bought one of these...(I stuck it on my windscreen in April and its not moved since).
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and I bought CoPilot for the IPhone (its an exceptional satnav - almost everything is configurable). £18.
I listen to music from my iPhone5 (through the stereo) and the woman on the satnav is shouting "Safety camera" at me and the phone charges

Also phone auto connects via blue tooth for phone calls.
I wouldn't go for a fixed satnav now. Copilot is excellent and cheap so I can easily justify an update if I want later

CoPilot is really good. I don't normally harp on about something but this is great.
You can tell it to dim the music when directions are spoken, turn off the music, have the speech louder than the music or do what I do for my 100 mile round trip a day...turn off directional speech but have it direct me still on the screen and still speak safety cameras and traffic warnings.
You can also advise it of different routes you want to use so it doesn't tell you you're going wrong all the time and advise you of traffic not on your route.

And use skobbler!
30quid for genuine iphone lighting adapator from apple! If you require it
Had this on my focus too. Gives full audio control. Volume, skip, ffwd, playlists. Easy to fit too
Could get an aftermarket unit for the same money but I like OEM look and sound quality isn't a must for me, so original head in suffices for my needs keeps all the lines clean too.
