Default 2 piece Girodisc brake discs, newage Brembo fitment

Bit of Background

I always love researching modifications & products in depth before I decide to go ahead & take the plunge. Im also always looking for good products at a good price & my project thread over on Middlesex Section shows. Iv been looking for good 2 piece brake discs to go with existing STi Brembo Calipers, the usual suspects were on the list but they were over the budget I had in mind. There seemed to be nothing for the price range & quality I desired. Until I came across "Giro Disc " from USA, which are quite popular there, especially on Porsche, Ferrari & Subaru forums such as Nasioc & Iwitsi. I have read through many forum reviews on design / build & how they performed on road & track & decided to go ahead & find some.

It transpires, that to my knowledge nobody here in the UK actively sells these for Subaru! (I may stand corrected, but I did scour the net!) They are however recently being sold over on MLR forum, which is how I came to find a UK importer, "Rossport". (popular tuners for Evo's & usually over on MLR).
Anyway after wondering why we are not offered this setup over here on Scoobynet, I have managed to organise a group buy with Rossport.

These are front brake discs for all GDB newage Subaru's equipped with the STi Brembo Calipers either 5x100 or 5x114, as they are multi drilled. The product info I found is below but the main selling points for me are:

-2 piece disc
-4lbs lighter unsprung weight than OEM
-Centre section is made from 6061-T6 aircraft specification aluminum
-The rotor and hat have a floating mount system
-Very importantly too is that it is a Curved Vane design
-The Price!

There are lots more reviews on the net, I've just found a couple. Please do your own research & decide for yourself!

The Group buy will run for 1 month as of today's date & items are being sold & despatched by Gavin at Rossport. I am just organising the group buy at discounted prices & buying 1 set myself too. I am not responsible if your order etc goes wrong! Any Thread questions I can answer but any technical, delivery, etc questions should be emailed to Gavin from Rossport:

gavin@rossport.com

Or you can contact them by phone on Tel: 01945-580066, or they are usually on MLR forum too. Before final order can everyone email they're current brake setup & car model to Gavin so that there is no confusion over fitment etc later.

Group buy is for a pair of front 2 piece Girodisc brake discs & prices below include VAT & delivery to UK mainland.

1 to 9 orders: £469
10 & above orders: £449

If you want good brakes, why not put the extra towards Performance Friction and be done with it? No such thing as a bargain when it comes to brakes.

Bells out an inferior grade material? Cheap for a reason just like the Braketech bells Aztec offer with the PF rotors. No surprise how they're about £300 cheaper than genuine PF ones.

Have you done any research what so ever before posting above comment?! lol
I know about Performance Friction / DBA / Aztec Braketech / Godspeed etc discs....
And what exactly is so wonderful about PF Bells that make them far superior to these bells??

Nor am I interested in saying these are better than such and such discs as neither I nor yourself have the expertise or scientific methods of proving such. Or better still stay off for sale threads that your not interested in buying in.

Could you explain to us all how the aluminum used in Performance Friction bells is superior to the aluminum used in the Girodisc bells? Do you have any evidence that maybe the manufacturing process of these aluminum bells is different in each respective factory.

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aluminium_alloy

Girodisc bells are made from 6061-T6 aluminum alloy.
Performance Friction are listed as Premium grade aluminum alloy, which is most likely the same. I doubt they are 7000 series aluminium alloy as theywould have no doubt listed them so and are also overkill on brake bells.!

Reading this, I'd say that 6061-T6 would be fine for the bells. Also have a good background in metallergy, though not a metallurgist.

I would be interested to know how these compare to the Godspeed brakes as they are around £130 more expensive.

If they are worth the extra then I would definately be interested. Can they do pads as well?

From the info I can gather on the net, it seems:

"Girodisc & PF are fully floating and curved internal vanes to aid cooling are main benefits, Godspeed are good for the money but are bolted design and have straight internal vanes"

At the moment we have maybe 5 people interested, we have till the end of the month to confirm guys
