Default NEW Group Buy on EJ257 shortblock - 1145

Due to the current interest in requiring some more of these EJ257 blocks, I've been chatting with the supplier of my old 2.33 and we've hopefully sorted out a price that might interest those who are looking for one soon.

Only really looking for 5 people as 10 takes time to fill and people who wanted in at the start end up waiting ages so as I'm getting one for project "Chunky-R" we will end up with 6 blocks in total. It'll be cheaper but do we want to wait a couple of months for the 10 slots to fill?

Cost for these blocks will be 1145UKP + VAT . Delivery will be 20UKP.

As per the last GB these shortblock are the complete Subaru factory assembled units with Sti crankshaft, Sti conrods, bearings and Sti 99.5mm pistons.

Following is borrowed from last GB (andy - hope you don't mind )

"This is exactly the same short engine as fitted to the MY 06/07 Sti, typically they are used in tuned applications up to approx 400bhp and 420lbft of torque.

For applications up to 480bhp and 500lbft of torque the custom forged piston upgrade is recommended.

This 2.5 core accepts all the std 2.0 components such as oil/water pumps, sump, pulleys and cylinder heads.

GB will run for about 12 days because if it runs longer - I'll be offshore when the blocks arrive and then I can't get them out to people in time = NOT RIGHT!

Once the 5 remaining slots are filled then the GB is CLOSED and we'll submit the order. Priority for these blocks WILL GO TO THOSE WHO EXPRESSED AN INTEREST IN ANDYGREER'S GB (the last one).

£100 deposit is required to secure each order, remainder payable once your shortblock is ready to be shipped to you.

NOTE: People ordering these for pre-97 cars (Phase 1) will need to get the Phase 2 water pipe that runs across the top of the engine OR modify their existing pip to accomodate the extra Crankcase breather on the EJ257 shortblock.

Any questions you need to ask, email me.

TBH Dunx - after all those who were interested and then asked if there was another GB on............... no-one seems interested now.

Similar GB price as 5 blocks was with AndyF............... why no interest now?

Dollar is stronger than it was at the last GB but if I get them from the UK and with a very good discount, my UK supplier can supply to your door in 48 hours for a VERY, VERY good £1225 + VAT including HEAD GASKETS

If no one decides to go for this then I'll just grab on myself from my supplier and leave someone else to organise their own GB.

You'd think I was making money on these blocks.............money goes straight to the supplier, I make nothing.

Question

I know this is brought up all the time, but can someone refresh me as to what's needed to machine 2.0 heads to match the 2.5 bores..?

I'm aware it's not necessary, however if I was to go down this route it would be something I'd be looking at having done..

Tempted..

BTW what's the going rate for a decent set of forged drop in 2.5 pistons..?

Russell,

So, correct me if I'm wrong.

It works out an extra £80+vat for the cometic head gaskets if supplied by your UK supplier.

It will cost me about £50 extra to have these gaskets to be supplied along with my forged rods and pistons from the states.

So in reality, for an extra £30 plus the vat on £80 (£14) = Total of £44 extra and I can have the block within 48hrs!

If this is the case I'll take one now mate!! As I have a lad waiting to buy my perfectly good low mileage 2.0 Sti bottom end from me to get his back on the road ASAP.

Cheers,
Dave.

I second this question mate, what needs doing, who can perform such an operation (in the Northwest preferably) and how much app' would such a feat cost

I'm buying some forged bits off these guys mate.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150280883658

Was going to pay and collect in person as I'm on my jols there in November just 10 mins from there shop!! but decided to just order them now and if I had a problem take them back in person!!
I'll see if I can get us a discount if you and any others want any, and if any probs arise I'll take yours back for you!!

No, seriously though, I was only going to collect them to save any postage costs, as myself and mates have never had a problem with any U.S based suppliers. (they send them marked as low value samples as well to help avoid any VAT )

Dave.

Edited my post after speaking to my supplier and was reliably informed that the gaskets are the Subaru OE Triple-layer Steel ones

Russell,

What is the Subaru part number of these blocks as I believe there are 2 different 2.5 shortblocks (Part No. sub10103AB440 and sub10103AB750)

Which of these is the correct one for my 2004 Sti?

Cheers,

Dave.

I think one is a different casting to the other and has different flashings?

What number is it that you want and I'll check that is the one you're gonna get?

This one mate;

Part No. sub10103AB440

I think the other one is fitted to the Hawkeye's.

Is it any cheaper without the Subaru Head Gaskets as I have already bought some comitec ones now.

Cheers,

Dave.

Looks like this one is going to die a death as Scoobywag has had to pull out due to buying a new car with 2.5 in it.

I'll leave it running for a while but we'll have to think about what to do very soon
