Default Turbo problem...again!

so, my car has been smelling a bit of raw fuel on cold starts..not too bad but you can smell it..I checked everything, everywhere and couldnt find any fuel leaks...which turned my attention to running rich so started looking for holes or leaks...

my MD321H has a 5 inch crack around the top of the exhaust housing! I showed the pic to a guy at turbodynamics who says in all his years he has never seen one crack where it has...just my luck! so, tubby is gotta come out again to be sent off for a new housing...bugger!

would that crack in the housing cause it to run rich?

Damn! More crack than Harlem fella!

Certainly not good, gases that should be measured on the way out are escaping through that crack so could explain why things are the way they are. Gases would also be escaping and going straight into the cabin which is why you can smell the fuel so strong. Had similar on mine but luckily for me is was only an up pipe gasket.

yeah, at the moment I am giving it a daily layer of gungum lol..gonna pull it this weekend and get it sent off, luckily its a quick turn around (famous last words)

scary thing is that every turbo specialist that has seen that pic says they have not seen one crack there! makes me think its a manufactured defect in the cast.

anyways, this has sparked me to change a lot of bits... decat 3 inch downpipe/lambdapipe and a 3 inch non resonated centre to replace the nurspec one, perrin turbo blanket and heatshield....then yet another map sesh!
