Thumbs up Engine building advice please for newb..

I plan on building an engine for my classic this year, my current engine is strong so I'm not in a rush and can take my time to do some research and collect the correct bits.

Just a few questions really.

I plan on getting a new age STI short block and using my heads (car is uk classic 98) I guess this is a straight fit?

Assuming it is, how do I know what head gasket to get thickness wise as I understand there is quite a choice?

Will the heads need skimming or can I swop them straight on?

Also will head bolts need to be new?

Are there any other things I will need to source to complete this job.

I'm sure I'll think of hundreds more questions over the course of the project but these will do for now.

I don't know the answer to your questions, but sounds interesting and im thinking about doing an engine myself eventually, to make some big (ish) power.
Id like something torque'y and quick spooling with a healthy lump of power straight on tap that would be rapid round a twisty track / B road.
Not to fussed about chasing numbers but would like it to accelerate with some venom !

Whats your plans for this engine ?

I'd like to build a fast road car, I know you shouldn't chase numbers but I want 400.

Hopefully doing this will give me some experience and I'll try something more involved next time, maybe a stroker?

Give me a shout when you are ready, i'm building engines day in day out. I can supply any parts you need and advise on what you need to do for gaskets etc.

That's good to know. Any chance of putting it on the thread though, so either myself or others can refer to it at a later date?
