Default 03 STi Oil Leak

Have a small puddle under my 03 STi today, cannot take off the undertray to take a better look but have read a few posts suggesting valve cover gasket or oil return feed from AVCS?

If it is valve cover how much am I looking at getting it fixed?

If it's the valve covers not to expensive, you can do it without taking the engine out but it's tight to do.

Worried about driving it 60 miles to the nearest Scooby Specialist at http://www.surreysubaruspecialists.com

As long as I keep an eye on the exhaust should it be OK to drive?

Just keep it topped up and don't hammer it and you'll get there fine

Have you had it serviced recently ? May be something as simple as a weeping oil filter 'O' ring or sump plug washer.

Was serviced 2k ago when it had a full service and GEMS ECU fitted and mapped. I don't think it was leaking until the past few days. From speaking to Dan at Sussex Scooby Specialists he thinks it might be the oil return pipe, and has advised me to get it recovered to there as it could damage the car :/

If it is the oil return pipe could it cause oil starvation to the turbo? (Don't worry I wont drive it anywhere)

Right well the Sump is rotted....

Questions, how much is a new sump? I would prefer to fit a new one than a 2nd hand. I assume I need a new sump gasket.

Do you have to take the subframe off for the sump? Also the garage said its a 1.8hr job, yet my friend said thats bollocks, 40 mins max.

What oil is best for the STI? think new oil and filter is a must.

thanks!

Pretty scary! I wonder how far away you were from a total sump failure and instant loss of oil pressure. I wouldn't fancy driving that till' it's sorted.

I've been looking into removing/refitting sump to install a baffle plate. The job would be dead easy if not for a 3-4 bolts which are hard to reach. It's physically possible to do it by undoing the engine mounts and jacking the engine an inch or so - but still very awkward by all accounts.

It should be 40mins, but I bet it can easily be a couple of frustrating hours. I believe you use a gasket sealer product rather than a gasket itself.

Mate it doesnt bear thinking about, and I certainly wouldn't drive it anywhere! it only started leaking the other day and I haven't driven it since.h

Would this kit be what I am after?

Oil was from Opie, magnetic plug and filter from ScoobyWorld i believe.

Magnetic plug will catch any metal bits floating around in your oil, so when you do a change you've got evidence of potential excessive wear, and also it keeps it out of circulation in your engine

That's the kit mate, magnetic plug collects any engine fillings or bits of metal that could possibly get into the engine

Right then, so the list is:

Sump kit consisting of:

1 x Engine Oil Sump

1 x Sump Plug

1 x Group N Cork Sump gasket

14 x Sump Fitting Bolts (Genuine Subaru)

1 x 1215 Threebond 250G Grey

Plus:

1 x Magnetic Sump plug
1 x 5 liters of Millers Oils CFS 5w-40 Competition Full Synthetic Engine Oil
1 x OEM Subaru Oil Filter

Think that's everything?

1 x Sump plug washer
1 x breather return seal ( sit's on the breather return stub on the inside of sump and seals against the sump mating face)

If using a Grp N cork gasket, it can be a pain in the ar*e to keep it lined up when doing the job 'in situ'.

The Sump Plug comes with a washer

Is this the O ring washer you are referring too?
