When changing the timing belt on my 2002 sti, is there anyway of locking the heads and the bottom end so that they dont move when taking the belt off?

 

Nope, not really. You'll just have to triple check the timing marks on the pulleys when the belt's on. The crank shouldn't move, or the drivers side cam wheels. It's the passenger side ones that spin out of position when the old belt comes off.

I followed this process..


The confusing part is once youve lined up the marks and turned the engine over a few times is the timing marks never line up again.

 

The cam and crank marks certainly do line up again and this needs to be double checked. The belt lines wont line up again.
