Oxygen sensor query
Curious to know what effect a bad or faulty oxygen sensor will have on a car and it's performance if applicable ?
I've heard it said it's ok to just unplug it and the only effect it will have is make it run a little richer which if true is a good thing for me

The problem with it running rich is you could get bore wash which is where petrol seeps past the rings and gets into the oil and wrecking the lubricating properties of the oil eventually killing the engine. It may also cause the engine to run lean and kill the pistons.

I've been told it's running lean due to the mods that have been done so if I'm able to make it a little richer then that is a good thing at the moment.
But can I disconnect the 02 sensor ? Will it improve performance ? And does the sensor really have that much affect on the performance when it's starts to play up ?
