Just about to give my, recently purchased, 2007 WRX to a mechanic to give it the once over.

Any common faults that I should get him to check for?

 

Get a sniff test done as head gaskets are a problem on the 2.5 and also get a leak down test done to see if and where there is any compression loss

Did I also hear that the rear diff or LSD can fail?

 

Suspension is prone to fecking up if its standard so look at spaces between arch and wheel as it maybe down slowly, or when driving u can hear them clunk on turning or road,,

Headlights, HIDs self levelling is working and no fault code on

 

My 07wrx is clunking on turning. Just waiting to get funds to get it sorted

 

Rear shocks clonk.
secondary air system - no way to check & no point till it fails and throws up ECU codes.
compression test to check for ring or head gasket failure. Also smoke test.
Any gearbox problem, difficult to get in gear, noises etc.
