Default Air intake chanes and ECU

I have the following questions which I have as I would like toi change my air intake setup.

1-What is the influence in the standard ECU if I place the MAF sensor unit 2 inches from the Throttle Body and bypass the long air intake.

2-What is suggested for the additional standard pipes from cam covers etc.Block -leave open - use oneway valve ?

These questions are due to the idea of venting the bonnet and using a cone type air filter a few inches from the Throttle Body intake.I would be building a shield around the air filter so the air is taken directly from the vent to be cut out of bonnet.

Something different and should allow much better airflow.
My 1994 Impreza GL AWD needs to breath better.

Thanks in advance

If you were going to do this, You should make sure you get tune after. Your MAF scaling is very sensitive for the ECU to do it thing! I would think the chances of confusing your ECU running rich( or worse lean) could be almost certain!
Maybe new ecu run no maf is a bette option?!
