Default Crank Extra Hole

Hi

I am just installing a new crank as below pic but it seems to have an odd drill hole at the rear. My concern is will the oil seal touch this or not.

Thanks for any help

Is it the one down in the bearing journal that's drilled at an angle?

No its the end of the crank where the rear oil seal goes I am not sure if the oil seal goes all the way back in the recess or it fits flush. if it goes all the way back it looks like the seal will catch on it.

Best thing I can advise is get a crank seal, line it up and see how deep it sits and on which part of the crank it'll run. From what it looks on the picture the seal will run on the shiny part of flange of teh crank, not the grooved area, so that machining hole should not make any difference.

IIRC the seals aren't that thick and are fitted flush to the block so there is space behind....it should NOT be pressed all the way into the block.

Thanks for your help it does seem that if the oil seal just sits flush with the crankcase it will miss it.
