Default How to replace an immobiliser

My car is a MY00 UK turbo and the immobiliser is under the dash below the steering wheel. The red light is blinking but the car runs just fine so I assume the immobiliser unit is knackered. Can I just replace the unit or does this involve reprogramming keys to a new unit?

Perhaps it's just a dummy flashing unit? Do you have the immobiliser tag for it? Easy enough to pull out and replace if its separate to your keys and won't interfere with starting so no need to get anything re coded ( I say simple but an understanding of in car electrics is needed )
