Knocking

Engine knocking and sounds like a bag off bolts when reved , bottom end ? No smoke starts fine ??

Do you get a rattle on start up and when you turn it off, does it increase with the revs, Hold it around 3-4k rpm, If it sounds like this then bottom end mate.

Yes on idle it ticks over with a tap tap tap sound and when revved it gets louder and really doesn't sound good

check for play on the white pulley for the air con mine was worn

It's undrivable mate and engine is really lumpy and rattlie so thinking it's more Likly bottom end

The reason I ask about oil is the dreaded knock normally starts at around 2500 rpm and tends to disappear around 3k, I wondered if it was just tappets with no oil, they sound like a sewing machine on full chat.

And you still werent sure lol,
One of the traders has a sti lump for £1250, might be worth a chat.

Lol never had this before so just wanted some other input iv been offered another wrx engine for 400 quid wouldn't pay 1250 for an engine I'd just buy another car tbh
