Default INDUCTION KIT

wrx 2005 blobeye, : my car is already mapped, running 1.4 bar max boost, its all been decatted, and headers have been ported and thermal wrapped, thanks to Harvey (RIP), but it was mapped on standard factory air box, however, I have recently purchased an 'SPT Induction kit', with heat shield, awaiting to arrive in the post, so would this mean I now require a Map Tweak ???? to take into account this extra mod, or would the existing map settings cope well with the introduction of this induction kit. at a guess I think it should be running 280bhp, but certainly no more on the standard TD04 turbo.
all advise welcome

I asked the same question after getting my Hawkeye remapped by JGM. His answer was yes, it would require a new map but would be keen to hear what other fellow members have to say as well as I'm also considering an induction kit.

ANYTHING tyo do with induction on a Scoob requires the map checked at the very least, and a tweak if the mapper thinks so.

Failure so to do could see it running weak, and....bang!

I was under the impression that it depends on what mods are already in place when the map was done as to whether it requires a further tweak in order to accomodate the introduction of an induction kit or it may well be ok with the existing map settings. I will only know once fitted and how it drives and feels. i will post my findings later in the week.

Its not really about how it drives. It may well drive really well and have more power due to altering the way the maf reads the air going through it. If its leaned the mixture you wont know without a map check maybe until its to late

WOW Fitted the SPT Induction kit today, feels truly awesome, I immediatley noticed a major improvement in throttle response, feels alot eager and bags of Torque, also running alot smoother than before. I am quite taken aback by how much better it really does feel on power delivery . a good piece of kit with its own heat shield, can't fault it, bought a big smile to my face

The difference you're feeling may well be down to it running leaner due to, I'm assuming, being slightly larger/different to standard. Not necessarily a good thing without getting it checked.

I shall email my Mapper,. and see what he advises.

incidentally, whats the downside if I continue to run it lean, if that is the case, and don't get the map tweaked.

Det is the consequence. Maybe not enough to blow up your engine, but enough to reduce the power via long term ignition retarding.
