Default Build sheet to get 300-320hp from a classic?

Right, I've decided to keep my Impreza. It's a UK spec 99 T2000.

But part of keeping it means making it perform to a higher level. Can someone help me with a build sheet of what parts I should be looking at getting. I want to write it all down so I can play with figures and work out exactly how much it's going to cost me.

Aim = 300-320bhp in a reliable package. I'm not looking for a circuit racer or WRC champ, just enough poke to be serious fun. If it's easier or more reliable to get 300hp, then I'm happy to go that route, rather than push the budget or durability for only a few more ponies.

Current state of affairs is, the bottom/big end is knocking. So motor is coming out. It can either be re-built, or replaced. I'm thinking of rebuilding it.

So what sort of setup (pistons, rods, turbo etc) should I be looking at?

Budget is not unlimited. Hence the reason for wanting to scope out and price up everything beforehand.

Happy to keep suspension & brakes standard for now. If they need upgrading they will be done after it's back on the road.

Links to vendors or specific parts would be welcome. Cheers.

Turbo you should be looking at either vf34/35 (newage sti turbo) or vf28 (p1 /sti6)if you can find a good one. Sti 7/8/9 intercooler would be an improvement with a sillicon y pipe. Your yellow 440s will be ok for that amount of power. You need a 255 fuel pump, some ngk7bs. Pannel filter, decat exhaust and a remap to finish the list.

Thanks. And piston wise? Seems to make sense to change these while the motor is apart. I assume stock non STI pistons aren't worth putting back in. What ones should I be looking at? Same with rods, are the stockers ok, or a known problem area?

If your happy at the 300 mark then look at the possibility of a 2.5 bottom end. Make a cracking road car with bags of torque

A friend of mine has a 99uk 2000 and is running 315/340 on the standard engine. His add-ons are:

VF30 turbo
STI8 TMIC
440s
RCM headers
Alcatek ECU
Decat
255 fuel pump
uprated panel filter
