Default Immobiliser problem

2003 Forester with a category 1 alarm. The car won't start, can't lock it or unlock it with the key fob. Just prior to this happening I closed the sunroof but it immediately started opening again, and then wouldn't close completely. I resorted to closing it manually. Now the instrument lights come on when the ignition key is turned, there's a single beep, the sound of a motor whirring for a couple of seconds, (sunroof motor?) but it won't start. New battery in key fob recently, I've tried disconnecting the battery. Radio and electric windows work.
Anyone any ideas?

Check all the fuses. Sounds like the sunroof got stuck and then blew a fuse possibly.

Had a similar problem with my 03 forester too but with not with the roof aswell. My key stopped working over night and could only open it with the blade part of the key but the alarm would go off and it would not start. I took the alarm out etc fixed now. PM me if you want more details
