I have one piece exhaust, which is backbox and centre piece - it connects direct to downpipe.

Am I correct in thinking that this is a standard 2.5" size and so I will need 2.5" downpipe and 2.5" gasket?

Yeah a 2.5 dp or you can get a 3" dp that narrows to 2.5" and a oem donut gasket!
