Wink What turbo do i have? what to go for?

Im trying to determine what turbo my car has its a standard 1996 uk spec 2000 turbo.

is it the vf22? TD04?

im looking to buy a reconditioned turbo or a decent replacement, to just run stock boost. so your recommendations are much appreciated.

(1) If it's a 'phase 1.5' MY97 (from Sep 96) then it'll be a front-entry TD04L (208bhp; 214lb ft)

(2) If it's an early 'phase 1' MY96 (pre-Sep 96) it'll be the larger top-entry TD05H 16g (208bhp; 201lb ft)

No UKDM "Turbo 2000" were fitted with the VF range.

Does your car have the coilpack/HT leads in the centre of the inlet manifold? If so see (1) above.*

If individual coilpacks on the plugs, then see (2).*

* Unless, of course, a previous owner has fitted a different turbo from OEM spec.

Tdo4's are ten a penny. I would suggest a vf28 as an upgrade over the stock one. Same turbo used in the p1 and sti 5/6. Would really suit a rebuilt enegine.

Used TD05s and TD04s are prevalent on eBay (as people like to upgrade to larger turbos).

Here are some links...

TD05H turbos

TD04L turbos

TD05H 16g.

Good for around 320-340 bhp after a remap.

I wouldn't get anything bigger than that, given your car's age, etc.

That sort of power will be ample.

Andy Forrest will be your best bet for the turbo to suit your needs.
