Default Advice about fuel pumps, may need a part

I recently bought an HRC fuel pump to upgrade my standard one (uk2000 my99)

The thing is, my standard pump had the wiring connected direct to the pump, but the HRC requires a black plug.

I've seen other pump assemblies and they have a small loom with a white plug one end and black plug to go on the pump.

I decided to cut the wires and fit spade connectors, but then realised that I wasnt sure how much of the pump actually ends up in the fuel??

I'd prefer to do it properly as the thought of an electricity and fuel mix doesnt fill me with confidence, so could someone tell me if its safe to do it this way or should I try and find the wiring loomy bit? (if anyone has one please pm me)

Also, upon test fitting it (with no engine in the car), the fuel pump runs continuously with the ignition off, and stops with it on. Is this because theres no pressure in the system? or my dodgy wiring?
