classic import engine into uk car
ive been doing some searching and have not found a definitive answer yet so all i want to know is does the engine from an import go into a uk model of the same year with any problems, or will i need the import ecu / transponder etc?
the engine on my uk car has gone, and ive found a good low mileage import engine for a good price but from what ive seen it would physically fit but wouldn't run right, is this correct? or am i better off finding another uk engine
car is a V4 1998 so a V5/6 engine is out of the question sadly
any help greatly appreciated

Ive done this, put a v4 sti engine in my v4 98 uk turbo wagon. plugged in and ran no problems with the standard 8s ecu just over fuelling due to the bigger injectors(440 vs 380). if u want to take advantage of the better internals then you will need the ecu, turbo and maf to match the engine, but thats for the sti engine. if the engine ur looking at has the same injectors as urs then the 8s will run it fine.
