Default Engine and Advice wanted

Hi, first post on here, got my first scooby 2 moths ago, 2000 P1.
Let a big end shell go last week so need another engine

As I am still learning about these cars can you advise what is best option.

My mechanic wants to do a complete engine change and not get involved in rebuilds, he would change my heads to a block etc if required.

What is the difference between a wrx and a STi engine, is it just the heads etc, same block?

Can a 2.5 block be used with my heads?

I have heard the later engines are better, also JDM engines are better than UK for some reason?

Anyone got a suitable engine?

What are you hoping for power wise?

What will you be using the car for? Daily commute, track days etc?

as above, the biggets thing is wallet.

your gonna get a massive great varying list of opinions and dos and dont's.

my advice would be to find a tuner your happy with using and speak to them about the build, its requirments costs and get them to do it. Means no issues with varying 3rd parties arguing about whos to blame if somethign goes wrong.

Scoobyclinic built my forged 2.5 a couple of months and im loving it for use as a every day road car, 400bhp+ on tap when i want it yet it will hapily tootle round.

Might be worth looking at forged builds for sale. My head went so I bought a built engine from a friend. Sleeping far better on a night now and I have big power

Have found a forged block done 2000 miles since build for £1000 + delivery from Ireland.

Also a rebuilt engine using upgraded pistons, crank and oil pump for £1200 complete, done 12,000 mile but it's from a '97 car and I heard the later Version 8 engines were better?
