Default Carbon canister removal, what do i block?

I've removed the pipe from the tank to the carbon canister system due to making the system more simplistic on my track Impreza.

Do i need to block off anything?

My engine light came on the car started running rough and i believe it possibly to be the carbon canister solenoid sucking in air instead of the fumes that would have been present before.

Would the extra air intake instead of fumes cause the engine light to come on as the system has unwanted air present?

Car is a later UK classic.

Thanks

I don't think it's as simple as that if you remove the line from the tank?

Thanks
