how to centre a replacement steering rack

Default how to centre a replacement steering rack

after having trouble with my steering im biting the bullet and changing my rack but if i keep my wheels straight how can i make sure my rack will be in sinc with my wheel whilst fitting ??

Just bought a v5 rack i got new inner and track rod ends a new belt and ordered fluid so will be tackling ss soon as parts arrive , might try and post pics if anyones interested in my findings ???

To center a rack you wind it to one end then wind back fully to the opposite end counting how many turns the splined shaft does. You have to be accurate, get a marker pen or something to mark with. To center it, wind it back from one end half the turns it took to go from one end to the other. For example - a rack that took 3.5 turns lock to lock, you would wind the shaft round 1.75 ( 1 and 3/4 ) turns from full lock.
