Godspeed Big Brake Kit
Anyone running the Godspeed big brake kit for standard 4 pots upfront with Bluestuff pads and Godspeed disks to the rear??
Im booked in to have the above fitted weekend after next, just wondered if anyone else has this fitted and how much better than the crappy WRX brakes they found it??

I love a good bargain like any other person but I would advise getting some feedback on those brakes before you purchase,at least when buying off sellers that frequent on scoobynet you know about there reputation and standards, and to me thats worth more then something that seems cheap,as they say not everything that glitters is gold.SJ.

I looked at the Godspeed kit but for £550 I thought it was too steep personally despite the two part disc & pads, this setup from DB, if it can be had for £299 sounds great, especially if he's using quality (brembo) discs in the kit.

Agreed however it's not rocket science, the standard WRX discs are too small and too thin so they overheat right? Spacing out the calipers (which at the end of the day are still a 4 pot caliper!) and fitting bigger, thicker discs is the way forward surely, that's all you're doing fitting Brembo's really...

The Godspeed 335mm kit is a far better set-up than the DB one above. The pads included with Ian's kit are £150 or there about's so the price difference is considerably less. Ian's are two piece discs with aluminium bells (lighter and less prone to warp due to heat etc I Believe) and are custom made for this application.
The ones above (DB) have hub rings so they fit correctly and also have the WRX PCD holes additionally drilled into them. You also have to get larger surface area pads to maximise as much as possible the larger discs so standard WRX pads will not do.
The comparison has been made between these exact two kits before and Ian has pointed out the differences far more accurately than I.
Also to add, yes I do have Ian's 335mm kit and his grooved rear discs on My GB270 (GB470) wagon and can not fault the set up. Braided hoses are a must as well to improve brake pedal feel.
The DB ones may well be better than OEM but Chalk and Cheese as above from SJ.

you have misunderstood me, DB power supplies brembo brake disks so no issue with quality, like i said i havent bought the kit but plan to at some point.
DB power also supplies alternative pads if required

The DB kit has discs taken from another car , the centre hole is larger so they give you a steel ring to make it fit , the 5 wheel stud holes are in the wrong place so they elongate them to fit , its not something I would ever fit on my car.
In our kit as pointed out above , you get nearly £150 worth of pads , we also do not use a standard Subaru 4 pot pad as that kit does , we use a modified Aston Martin pad which is a lot bigger putting a lot more pad material on the disc aiding performance , so your paying £100 more for my discs bells and bracket kit , and the discs we make are an exact fit not a bodge fit , as well as being a 2 piece disc and bell that has more benefits than a one piece disc.
I'm sure there is a place in the market for that kit , but is not on terms of our kit in quality or performance
Cheers Ian

Can I ask, you being the "man in the know" when it comes to scooby brakes:
Your 4 pot big brake conversion with the modified Aston pads VS STI Brembo's with your disc/kevlar pad combo, tell me how they compare...?
It's one or the other for me and I cant decide which to be honest.
Also, these Aston pads are they good for track use? Also when they wear out, what do you charge me for a second set exactly... £150 then?

We use the Aston Martin pad shape , which is then available in all the popular makes , Kevlar , EBC , Ferodo , Mintex ect you pick the correct pad to suit your driving style and they are very good.
I have tested the 335mm kit against the STi brembo caliper set up on the same day with the same car , the 335mm kit was giving better results , there wasn't a lot in it , but they were better.
If it were my choice , I would fit the 335mm kit , but you need to make sure that your subaru 4 pot calipers are working properly with no sticky or seized pistons , if the calipers are not right then the kit will not perform as it should.
Yes when the pads wear out its around £150 for pads
Cheers Ian

Like i said i havent used the kit but thought it was a good budget alternative, yes your kit is great but its £500, thats serious money and i would want to look at spending a bit more and getting a brembo setup or perhaps K-Sport
Open your eyes and look at the difference in the disc specs !

I'm in the market for some brake stuff,
my current setup :
2005 legacy 2.5i N/A
front brakes : wrx type 4 pots with DBA 4000 rotors & EBC redstuff
rear brakes : legacy genIV BL/BP 3.0R / 2.5GT type (290x18 rotors, same as wrx 2001-2007, 1 piston sliding calliper, stock pads)
summer wheels : sti "bugeye" 17x7.5
winter wheels : wrx "bugeye" 17x7
used mostly for :
1) B road daily driving
2) occasional mountain driving
3) heavy towing (750kg boat trailer, no brakes on the trailer)
I am looking for :
more brake power and fade resistance, mostly for 2) and 3) situations
new rear rotors and pads (they are worn out)
I am considering :
godspeed 335 4 pot upgrade with std kevlar or bluestuff pads
godspeed wrx type rear sloted rotors with std brembo or bluestuff pads
one question regarding the pad quality :
I've been happily using redstuff pads for awhile : good cold bite and nice fade resistance, low dust, no noise.
- Should I get bluestuff allround or do you think the godsped kevlar (front) and std brembo (rear) would do the job ?
- are there any downsides with bluestuff regarding daily driving ?
my current setup :
2005 legacy 2.5i N/A
front brakes : wrx type 4 pots with DBA 4000 rotors & EBC redstuff
rear brakes : legacy genIV BL/BP 3.0R / 2.5GT type (290x18 rotors, same as wrx 2001-2007, 1 piston sliding calliper, stock pads)

However , the initial bite is not as good as Ferodo DS2500 or Carbon Lorraine RC5 + I tried these on my standard disks recently and found the response much more crisp and re-assuring, the trade off is however in the lifetime, these materials are sintered pads with a higher friction co-efficient 0,42-0,45 and they do eat the disks and themselves quicker. The EBC blue perform very much like OEM . The size of the BBC at 335*34 mm gives a much better resist to disk warp and brake fade due to disk overheating , the pads you choose to go on the BBC 335mm kit should match your intentions , Ferodo DS3000 / Carbon Lorraine RC 6 are definate no no for towing your boat and but the DS2500 and RC 5+ are ok for down hill
but remember the bite is fast and so as your trailer is not blessed with brakes it will very quickly be faster than your car !! The EBC blue are more progressive but won't give you that surprise effect , however they lack the immediate on off response that you need for quick lap times on a circuit . The FCP817H are the DS2500 , I would recommend these for ambition-ed drivers on the BBC from godspeed , and anyone still using std WRX disks should stick to the speed limits , as in my view the things are under-dimension-ed for the power of a WRX, and even good pads are wasted on them.
Best regards Linksfahrer
Standard disk is woeful on a tuned WRX . IMHO the first modification everyone should do is to uprate in direction Sti Brembo or larger disks<br/>

bit late with the advice I know, but its taken this long for me to gain the experience.
I have a tow bar on my WRX , but I would not dream of pulling more than my motorbike behind it , even with all the brake mods.
SO I just wondered if the guy with the boat-trailer and legacy,
was still on the road ?
