Talking Advice on P1 engine needed please.

Hi all!

I'm kind of new to the site and not the most mechanically minded (so please bear with me!), but I'm going to look at a 1999 Impreza P1 tomorrow. It's parked at my Father's friends garage and does look quite smart to be fair. We were considering it as a possible project in our spare time.

I think it may have the original ECU, but needs an engine and engine harness.

My Father is a mechanic who will be doing a lot of the work, but he has set me a bit of a challenge of doing research on engines.

What I was wondering is, what engine types can be put into this particular model?

Is it best to have a P1 engine specifically? Or will a STI V4, Type R / Type RA engine also fit? Are they all roughly the same power / spec?

Many thanks, any help would be greatly appreciated! And again, please pardon my ignorance!

Bill.

The engines go in phases on the classics, phase 1 were the 1993-1996, phase 1.5 were the 1997-1998 and the phase 2 are the 1999-2000 engines.
As said, the P1 runs the same engine as the version 5/6 STI (its based on a version 5 car so pretty much everything from a 5 is interchangable), not worth trying to fit an older phase engine to these tbh.
