Default centre thrust and rear thrust block identification

exactly as the title really

can you tell if the block is rear or centre thrust without stripping it down?

also how do you id scdb or cdb from outside other than the cross hatching i believe on the top but is this only on the early engines that are centre thrust?

cheers

In general (but not always),
Center thrust will have 4 bolt/2 stud bell housing.
Rear thrust will have 6 bolt/2 stud bell housing.
SCDB will normally have S20C casting numbers.
CDB has cross hatching on oil filter housing and above the oil pump - center thrust from the factory unless converted to rear thrust at a later date.
