Default Could oil in coolant be modine failure

I've got oil in the coolant of my 95 STI, before I assume it's the head gasket's, is it worth changing the modine to see if this has caused it? I had to top up the coolant with about half a litre of water. No signs of overheating or water/mayonnaise in the oil!!!

I could be wrong here but I don't think the modine is connected to the coolant in anyway.

I`m wrong

Its possible but not a common occurrence from my limited knowledge on it, As you have one it might be worth a swap and change fluids etc..

Someone told me it worked as a kind of oil cooler so I thought oil may have got into the coolant that way. Guess I'll just have to face up the fact it's HG. Thanks for saving me the time & trouble of swapping the modine over.

i have not herd of a modine failing in that way on a subaru before, although i have seen it many times on vw's and fords when the car was first thought to have head gasket issues and the modine was completely over looked.

The modine is an oil to water cooler, so yes the failure could be there however it's unlikely!

Very common on VWs as already stated but rare in a Scooby. It's an easy swap though & a used one will cost peanuts, if you have no other symptoms of HG failure then I'd try it first.
