Major idle issue help required ( video )
Thought id post a vid of what is happening to show u lot what im dealing with hopfully some one will now what is causing it...
please click on pic below

Basicly I installed my Greddy gauges, , before I started I drove the car to a friends quick for 5 min and then bk again.. Left it to cool down and then start work on it ( no issues driving the car or idle issues there )
The boost gauge was previously fitted so all I had to do was fit the oil temp and oil pressure from scratch.
So installed everything finished up and fired up the car now the first time I started her ( 99 type r ) revs went straight up to 3.5k then down to 2k them back 3.5 then bk to 2 and so on.. So switched of the car left it 5 min started her again now from start up the revs go up and just keep going !!!! Wtf help please
So to clarify now when I start the car the needle on the rev counter just keeps increasing I have fired her up 3 times now and once it gets to 4500 / 5000 rpm I just shut her off b4 any damage happens
Any ideas .... Thanks in advance

I know its a forester but maybe worth a try. Had idle trouble with mine before after the battery was disconnected. http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulle...-change-64912/

I had thought the ecu may have reset but I have a aftermarket apexi power fc, I no if u leave the battery disconnected on a standard ecu it will reset but I'm unsure if that's the case with the apexi ... I mean what would happen to my map will that stay .... Really could do with a mappers advice

Its possible the apexi doesnt now know where the stepper motor is and has wonder it fully open.
If you have the orignal ecu try plugging that in and turn ignition on and then off and then try the apexi.
I have also seen recently an apexi that failed in a similar way internally so could just be damaged apexi.
If you unplug the idle stepper motor on the throttle body and keep it unplugged and remove and pull the plunger finger out to lower the idle speed and leave it unplugged you maybe able to set it so idle is not so high and drive it gently home. If you floor it the air in the throttle body under boost will push the plunger back in and you will have high idle again.

Hi Simon
Thanks for ur reply .. I cannot get my head around this I mean I have only installed a oil temp & pressure gauge, yes I did disconnect the battery for a good few hours whilst the work was been carried out, but I drove the car first thing in the morning and it was working fine.
Would letting the car tick over for 10/ 15 mins do any harm, I have had to remove the battery overnight as the battery died tonight so will be going back in with a fresh charge tomoro .... I have removed the tmic again just to double check everything under was put back properly and it was also checked around alternator again everything as it should be.
Can u tell me is there a simple way I can check what's on the hand controller sensor wise and post up a reading of how the car is doing or is the only way to do that with a datalogit I think it's called..
Did u happen to watch the video link above ?
Many thanks

thats not a valid test anyway.
the standard ecu switches to map sensor and the powerfc doesnt realise the engine is consuming air and stops injecting fuel.
best way is on the commander voltage 1.06 max with ignition on.

thanks for your help its much appreshated ! ... i double checked engine bay for a 3rd time this morning so tmic off everything is as its should.. the only other place fiddled with is the wiring behind stereo to hook up the power etc for gauges but i really cannot see how that would affect the running of the engine.
Tbh I'm not really sure where to start then.. I'm thinking maybe new maf new coolant temp sensor and maybe see if I can pic up a cupple second hand icv's and see if that makes a diffrence.
I would buy a new icv but at £280 from import car parts who are good on price I just cannot justify it atm.

coolant temp sensor you can check on the commander...
Monitor --> Coolant temp
remove the valve and set it lower.... try plugging original ecu in to see if it resets it

If I go to monitor --> coolant temp, do I have to have the car idling and how are the results displayed I mean am I looking at a temp or a voltage I'm guessing it will be one of those 2.
I don't have the original ecu I may see if I can get a spare one sent out tomoro for me to test with. Would this diagnose wether it is the ecu that's at fault?
When u say remove the valve and set it lower are u talking about the icv u lost me abit with that one.
Thanks

Thanks Simon I will take a peek first thing in the morning... I have also go another icv coming to me hopfully will be here tomoro so am going to swap that over as well... Thank u for all ur help I will let u no tomoro how I get on
1 quick question though on the apexi handset when u go to the etc moniter setting screen I back out of all the other screens by pressing "prev" how do I get it back to the home screen with engine idle on 1 page and some engine reading on the other, don't really now how else to discribe it Basicly the page that it was on prior to going to etc , monitor , settings ..
Thanks
Hi simon
Seem to be starting to figure my way round the ecu abit better now so many things I didn't realise it would show me.
I fitted a second hand icv a day back and it has sorted out the idle issue
it was still idling high to begin with but after a few mins it settled down to normal idle and is still ok now that's 1 problem fixed.. NOW for some reason the car is overboosting
I took the scoob out this morning and the boost peaked at 1.5 bar !!!!! Wtffff I'm sure the car was mapped to 1.1 bar and that what is has been running at for ages It's bloody typical no issues at all for ages then 2 in the space of a week !!

Cheers
