Bare minimum for 2.5 forged build

Default Bare minimum for 2.5 forged build

Hey guys,

Touch wood there's nothing wrong with my car (spec-d) currently on 70k with fsh.

I read the forums ALOT and sometime they scare the crap out of me, if I read everything I'm lead to believe the cars ready to blow a gasket and the rods will disintegrate.

So just throwing this out there.

I I we're to strip it now. And rebuild what would be the bare minimum in parts not labour I'd need?

Updated head gaskets
Updated head bolts
Drop in forged piston and rings?

Who's a good supplier? And which products would be choice.

The car would be staying standard ie no remap, etc,

Not strictly such a thing as a drop in replacement piston unless the engine is newish. Your gonna need to bore & hone it to the next size up 99.75mm for pistons. Mahle pistons are very good, 4032 material ideal for a road car as they are minimal noise.

ARP headstuds and Cosworth/subaru steel gaskets are a must. i'd also replace the bearings in the bottom end while it's out too.

Hi Jake

As above Rob said,but I would add at least Manley rods too plus with bearings(ACL)

You can buy those parts easily like here in UK or if you want from USA(parts are there cheaper including the postage)

I have to say, if you're going to rebuild it, you may as well have a remap. Not necessarily to improve the performance, but to ensure that the ECU is dealing with the changed internals properly.

buy mine, fully forged 2.5 built from brand new block and crank, has done 6k miles, available as a short engine or complete long engine. save yourself thousands and you can sell your engine on to recoup some of the costs

Having built a few of these now and if you are sure you're going to keep it standard I would recommend the following.

New bearings (Crank and rod) new pistons and rings but You'll need to bore and hone the block to suit the pistons. If you use drop ins the engine will just drink oil.

I'd use the cosworth 11mm head studs and cosworth stopper gaskets.

For what they can be had for and if you ever do want to take it further id be tempted to stick a set of rods in there too. Manley are a good make at a great price.

My advice is, have an aim and stick to it. Don't let feature creep take hold otherwise it will be forever off the road.

this is all ifs and buts at the moment, as i say touch wood its fine lol
