Default STI Version 8 2003 JDM Twinscroll engine into Gc8

Hi all

I want to swap a JDM Version 8 Twinscroll engine into a 1997 Gc8 STI
What is the easiest way to swap over with keeping the AVCS

I Have the full car as a breaker.

Do i have to take the full wiring loom out of the Version 8 or do i have a possibility with running another ECU and keep the standard loom?

Who has done this whole conversion including working AVCS

regards

Easiest way is to have ECU which can control the AVCS,something like Syvecs where is this for free,on other is ECU is AVCS/VVT for extra

About the who done conversion including AVCS,here in UK has done this(AVCS retrofitting on GC8) lot more than in USA or EU

The avcs will need the STi ECU to function properly, Possibly get it working with an aftermarket ECU but not sure which ones apart from the Syvecs are compatible,so i would swap newage loom and then its all plug and play so to speak.

Edited to add that, Neil E_M_B, Had a type-R running a full newage twinscroll set-up.

No it would still need additional wiring adding as your loom has no connections for the AVCS

Cheapest and best option would be to fit the new age loom. But remove all the unwanted items from it.

Few threads on RS25 forums are there about the full GD swap to GC8(RS in USA),check those threads

You can use other ECU too like Simtek/AlcaTek which for Classic don't have AVCS/VVT implemented, but for extra cost(£150) can have too AVCS/VVT control

In some respect is Syvecs plug and play, but as Gaz said, you will need get AVCS loom made(TimH@JTi.uk.com is good guy whihc can made for you this VVT/AVCS loom ) and if you want use New age coilpacks, you will need wire them too etc

If you are have more question, sign up on Syvecs Forum http://www.syvecs.com/forum/ and there will help you guys which have done this plus support from mappers and Syvecs support is awesome, worth the extra for this(you don't need wait on ECU few weeks/months)

Why in UK nobody uses the complete sti v7-9 2.0l engine with full avcs etc?
When is see engine builds everybody uses just the newage blocks and version 3-6 heads?

Why does nobody wants the perfect response, spool, torque and smooth power delivery of an fully working avcs jdm vf37 engine ?

Or is there a way to get round this?

Mainly because you either need an aftermarket ECU to control the AVCS with additional wiring or a wiring loom swap to utilise the OEM ecu as already said, Nasoic or IWSTI will have a lot more info on this subject

so there is no way to get the advantages without using avcs?
how much better is avcs compared to a non avcs build?
target is a 400/400 road car

AVCS essentially allows the inlet cams be be advanced which increases dynamic compression, this then improves spool. You can achieve this on a non avcs engine by raising the static compression ratio, having a good header/up-pipe setup along with a good spooling turbo. Or...........just put a 2.5 in it :-)

To sum that up and get it straight.

Car is a sti version 3

1. I can map the car as it is with a hydra or alcatek ecu. Remove the 180km/h speed limiter (car needs to rear km still. 240km speedo is already added ) set to 98ron and run about 300/300.
2. When im ready to swap the version 8 jdm avcs engine after driving around half a year ir so i can use my existing loom and jydra/alcatek ecu all i have to do is remap it and fit an avcs loom which can be bought for around 150gbp.
3. Newage engines uses other maf, boostsolenoid etc. What to to with these? Use all the existing version 3 stuff?.

Is it rlly that easy?

Its not this simple, when you put the STi twin scroll engine in the ecu in use will have to be able to read the crank and cam signals from that engine which are different to the GC8 engine signals.

So whatever you do must take this into consideration.

Its possible to have an Alcatec ecu configured to be plug and play in the car and use the new age signal patterns, likewise the Syvecs.

Don't use a Hydra thats best avoided its a very "course" ecu imho.

Alcatec have done this for me in the past and are looking to make the cam patterns switchable in software as well.

cheers

As Bob said Hydra ECU is not the best and really don't try save on the ECU,if its budget and you have best ECU go with Syvecs and you will save the money on the end
