I did the spray fix 2 weeks ago and got rid of all knocking - I know it's only a temp fix but all the research I've read (lots) said that even changing the shocks can last only another 10k miles.
2 cans of 3in1 white lithium grease cost me 13€ and I've only used less than 1/2 of one - as long as this fix lasts longer than Winter I'll be well chuffed. Come the warmer weather I'll take them apart, add the grease and grease nipples and re-fit the originals as they've only covered 42k miles (2005 Hawkeye WRX) and are a long way off being knackered.
For the price and simplicity, just spray them for now

No worries - peasey to do:
- Buy spray can of White lithium grease
- Jack car up (one side) to get wheel off the ground slightly
- Lift the rubber gaiter (fingers in between the coils of the spring) protecting shock to expose "shiney" shock
- Spray grease on shock - front, back, sides, etc. it'll run down but the aim is to get it to run down into the main metal tube.
- Lower the car, remove jack and bounce her up and down to get the lube into the tube.
- Repeat as necessary on the other side.
- That's all folks
I forgot to, but apparently once the wheel is off the ground grab it at 12 and 6 o'clock and try moving it - any movement should induce the knock from the suspension, thus confirming that's where the problem is. I didn't (I forgot) but the 1st drive after the spray confirmed as the knock had gone.
