Basically my eml light is stuck on so my mate has plugged the car in and the code is for the speed sensor, Is this a common thing? also the car drives exactly as it did before the eml(possibly using more fuel) does that sound right?

is speedo working?
the speed sensor is on the driver side of the gearbox and the signal usually come from there to the dash and then onto the ecu.. so if no speedo also then likely to be the sensor or wiring of it

Yes speedo is fine which I found weird... I think It's quite likely the heat from the big turbo has killed the sensor but then surely something would be not working? Everything seems fine...
How is the code being read and what scan tool was used?
edit. you can get a speed sensor fault come up if you've been revving the car up for a while whilst the car is stationary. Have you tried resetting and retesting for codes after a couple of drive cycles?
